wastegate rattle/new turbos

I had my turbos replaced a month ago and upon recieving the car there was still a very small rattle going on, I installed vrsf downpipes a week later and the rattling became huge. I also felt like I had no bottom end power and it took the car forever to wind through 3-4 gears.

I replaced all vacuum hoses and replaced spark plugs just for PM sake, I then ordered 2 new control solenoids from ECS tuning. immediately after install I felt much more bottom end power in first to where I couldnt keep traction even with full traction control on. the rattle was very slight but almost eliminated. Now I am driving it today and the rattle is very loud again. I used a vacuum gauge to see how the solenoids are operating and it appears when I am on heavy throttle I spike to 20inhg and then it drops to zero, on coast and idle I am at zero, If i turn off then back on the engine the vacuum will be at 10 until the first time I accellerate through the gears. I have been reading and searching for answers on the forum but have not come up with much besides what I have already done....

Sounds like the stealership dod an update on your cars software to mask the wastegate rattle and made your dwp to 0.

I think they do the update before they replace the turbos to see if that alone will fix the problem.

Yup. First step update to mask the rattle. Then if it doesnt work replace turbo with updated software. Turbo lag.

Had my neighbor who is a bmw master tech come over last night and register my battery and reset my adaptations. I took a picture of information screen. Weird because the mileage does not match my odometer. Which one is my software version

Lag and power seem to have improved after the adaptations reset. Too wet out to really get on it though.

Your integration level points to software last upgraded in autumn of 2010. I don't think they updated software on your recent visit. I believe E89X-10-09-511 was one of the integration levels making dwp to 0. You need software upgrade or JB4 fix.

Yea like dbond says is not a latest sw. I have E89x-15-03-501.Next time you go ask specif. for waste gate valve correction, wgak. They will update your sw and add the correction which brings vacuum to 18 in of hg. Downside could be more wg rattle.

Think the mileage is in km.

If your neighbor is using dealer software (ISTA/P) he is likely to have the latest version. I'm not sure what ill effects would it have for you. Try it you have almost nothing to loose.

You have completely excluded the possibility of your new turbos just being rattly. My new turbos rattled more than my original ones ever did. On the bright side I have had zero excessive smoking from seal wear since the new snails were installed...but the new turbos did anything but fix wastegate rattle. Within 6 months they were noisier than the originals.

Thinking back to my downpipe install I did not use new gaskets to the turbo as the kit did not come with any. driving with the windows down I hear a minor rattle but I believe most of my noise sounds like a massive exhaust leak but shining a light in from the top I do not see any soot around the band clamps so if it is leaking it would be from the bottom half. also The band clamps were practically touching when I took the stock downpipes off and I could not get them nearly as tight getting them back on. I am thinking I need to buy new gaskets and re-install the downpipes to eliminate the noise I believe the sluggishness in some gears would be attributed to leaking at the downpipe.

Yeah Im sure the software is part of the issue. picked up car last night they replaced the front turbo. leaving the dealer was awesome I heard rattle but not as obnoxious as before.....then the car warmed up and we're back to where we started. Its at a point now where I just need to get the JB4 and work on it that way....
